There is a great little book out there called "Don't Make Me Think: A Common Sense Approach to Web Usability". The concepts in that book applies to this question, as eloquently put above. Another great title for a book: "Don't Annoy The Hell Out Of Me With Bad Flash Intros". More of a pamphlet, really. :)
Basically, flash intros stand in the way of your visitor's experience. It's one more click the user has to make to get to the core value of your site. Just another reason for someone to say "no".
